Description
The long legged Great Blue Heron are known as water wading birds. They are also very majestic birds when in flight with a wing span up to 6 feet. They are often seen alone while gracefully standing in water close to shore. They stand patiently yet very determined to capture a fish and wait for the best opportunity to do so. This characteristic is the reason some Native American cultures believe Herons are messengers of self-determination and wisdom. They reflect the ability to progress and evolve using their own innate and unique wisdom. Those with the "medicine" of the Great Blue Heron may sit calmly while the rest lose patience. Because they are known to be loners....you never really see them socialize in groups. It is said that they represent how if we follow the prompting of our own hearts we can have the ability to magnificently soar.
As a young girl growing up in Wisconsin I remember at times seeing a Great Blue Heron standing in water for long periods. I was so fascinated to watch them and now learning about their symbolic meaning adds even more to that fascination.

Ah,now this one really is new Linda! So happy you are bringing out more of your beautiful works. The delightful range of blue shades throughout this exquisite work are very harmonious and peaceful. The heron is so soft and feathery apart from his brilliant sharp and gleaming orange beak! It is so sensitively done as are all your wildlife paintings ,and lovely to see his head and eye in detailed close up like this.It looks rather like a "pastel. "He appears so magnificent and is so very enjoyable to view.L/F
