Artist's Description
The Hesquiat are a North Western tribe from Vancouver Island - British Columbia area. This was drawn from a 1910 photo ....during those times it was common for northwestern tribes to weave clothing from cedar bark. This woman is wearing a cape woven from cedar bark ...probably not the most comfortable thing to wear but cedar is somewhat water resistant.

I believe my art is a venue my Creator gave me to share expressions from my heart and soul. I hope these pictorial expressions will some how be able to touch the heart and soul of the observer as well. Thankyou for stopping by. "ART IS NOT ABOUT THE ARTIST. Sorry Anne ...I used the word kind twice in the first sentence...oh well...I guess that would mean you are double kind....which you are.

Lovely and outstanding drawing! What an amazing image, packed with not only beauty and poignance, but also actual knowledge. I am thrilled to learn about the Hesquiat. The people must have carried with them the delicious fragrance of cedar, and perhaps it served to keep off the insects and well as the rain. Beautifully done!
Linda Nielsen replied:
Once again your comments are always an honor to me....I am so glad you like this Dawn. I never thought about the fragrance factor of the cedar or that it would keep the insects at bay...but it definately would make sense to add to the benefits of wearing bark. lol! Thankyou Dawn!
